How to pack a Premium
Step 1
Step 1
Remove both pedals from the bike.
Take off both wheels and deflate the tyres so that they fit within the designated area.
Place the front wheel into the lid of the box (left hand side as you look at the inside of the lid). Place one piece of blanket on either side of the wheel to protect both the bike and the box.
Fix with the skewer. The quick release side of the skewer sits within the box.
Step 2
Step 1
Place the rear wheel into the right hand side of the lid. The cassette faces in towards the lid (ie against the external side of the box and not foam). Use the blanket to protect the cassette and box from damage.
Place the other blanket on the non cassette side and fix with the skewer.
Ensure there is space for the anti crush pole through the spokes of the wheels.
Step 3
Step 3
Carefully place the bike into the box with the crank towards the bottom of the box, however, not against the bottom of the box.
Turn the forks so that they sit parallel with the bottom of the box.
Utilise one of the pieces of pipe insulation to protect the crank and the box.
The rear derailleur will be facing upwards. Wrap this in the provided bubble wrap to protect this.
Remove the seat post and fix this into the box as shown. We’d recommend you mark the seat position with some tape so you know the correct height when you rebuild the bike.
Step 4
Step 4
Step 3
Remove the handlebars by detaching the handlebars from the stem. There is no requirement to remove the headset.
Turn the handlebars into the box and place them carefully either side of the the top and downtube.
Step 5
Step 4
Step 5
Strap the bike down into the box.
Add all of the provided packing materials onto the bike to protect it from damage, including the pipe insulation, bubble wrap, crank protector and additional foam protection.
Place the foam protection between the wheels and the bike in the same shape as the box as shown in the picture at step 6. You will clearly see how the shape of the foam mirrors the box.
Carefully close the box, ensuring the anti crush pole sits through the spokes of the wheels.
Remember to pack your tools to rebuild your bike when you get to your holiday location as well as your pedals and skewers!
Step 6
Step 4
Step 5
If you are unsure on any aspect of the packing then please get in touch and we will be happy to help.
We recommend that you consider adding a GPS tag into your bike box so you can track it at the airport.
Locks can also be added to the clasps to ensure your bike remains secure. These are available to hire from us at a cost of £5.00 for 2 locks for the duration of your trip. If you are interested in hiring these then please ask.
Finally, please ask the airport staff to affix the luggage label to the appropriate location on the top of the box!
